Carlos Alcaraz Fan Site
An unofficial fan site for Carlos Alcaraz that scrolls through the tennis season, one Grand Slam surface at a time, and keeps up with him live.
01the brief
Passion, manners and a live feed
Carlos Alcaraz plays with joy, power and impeccable manners, and fans follow him week by week. The site had to carry that personality: passionate, fun and a gentleman, never corporate. It also had to stay current without anyone updating it by hand, showing where he is playing now, what comes next and the latest stories. Above all, it had to be clearly unofficial, with every photo, video and fact credited to its source.
02the approach
A match on every surface
We built the page as one tennis season. It opens on the blue hard court of Melbourne, moves to the clay of Paris, the striped grass of London and the blue and green of New York, with white court lines as the layout grid. Big headlines squash and stretch like a ball on impact, and a pinned court draws a cross-court forehand and then a drop shot that dies over the net.
Under the surface it is plain HTML with a small PHP layer. Twice a day it reads his schedule and latest result from Wikipedia, and every two hours it gathers Alcaraz headlines from The Guardian, BBC Sport, Marca and AS. The cursor is a tennis ball with a trail, the scrollbar is a ball rolling down the season, and highlights from the tournaments' own channels open in a lightbox.
